Here is also a link to Mayo Clinic's definition of nephrectomy and a brief explanation on what to do afterwards. It may help other members understand your situation better to offer insight if you are willing to share a bit more about yourself. Has your physician discussed diet options with you? Are there any foods that you are particularly concerned about?

Hi @charlie1947. I'd like to introduce you to a few fellow Connect members who can share their experiences with renal cell carcinoma and living with one kidney. First meet @foxylady who also has renal cell carcinoma and @tntredhead whose husband had kidney cancer. As a kidney transplant recipient, I bet @rosemarya has something to add to this discussion, as does @mlemieux who was born with one kidney.
Charlie, you may also be interested in this discussion "Healthy diets for cancer patients" http://mayocl.in/208vukD. Have you talked to a nutritionist about a tailored diet?

Hi, @charlie1947, I am living with one kidney, also. Different circumstances, though. I developed acute renal failure due to complications related to end stage liver failure. I received a kidney (one kidney) transplant at the same time as my liver transplant. That was 7 years ago. I am dong fine with my one 'beautiful,' kidney. For me, a heart healthy diet is encouraged with limited salt, fats. And stay hydrated. Water is my beverage of choice, At first, I kept a pitcher in refrigerator and made sure to empty it as the day went on. Now, I'm a pro and I do not do that anymore.
I am unfamiliar with whether cancer diagnosis would change anything for you. If you have questions, I encourage you to speak with your doctor.
I know several people who are living well with one kidney. If there is anything you want to ask me, please feel free to do so.
I hope you are doing well. Have a good day.
Rosemary
Is there anyone in a similar situation?
Hello charlie, and welcome to Connect. Thank you for sharing a bit about yourself and your carcinoma renal cell cancer and kidney removal.
A few brief discussions about this type of cancer took place in the past, you can find them here, http://mayocl.in/2edJ4pU, http://mayocl.in/2eMMCeR.
