2022 Year-End Challenge

Mayo Clinic is transforming health care to speed research and improve care. Your gift will have three times the impact to help advance this work.

As we prepare to welcome a new year, we have something special to celebrate at Mayo Clinic. We have been presented with a challenge opportunity that will triple the impact of your year-end gift to help cure, connect and transform medicine. Your gift can help lead the way into a better, healthier future in the new year and beyond!

Inspired by Mayo Clinic’s patient-focused and visionary leadership, a dedicated benefactor has pledged a gift of $1 million and challenged us to raise an additional $500,000 from supporters and friends. Every dollar of your gift has three times the impact. Your support allows physicians and researchers to find answers to the most challenging questions in medicine, and help patients and families receive groundbreaking, individualized and patient-first care.

The urgency and importance of medical research is present every day. Patients expect and deserve accelerated research and a faster translation of breakthroughs from bench to bedside. This is the kind of leadership Mayo Clinic is uniquely able to provide, and that we are already making happen. Generous benefactor support will allow for even more advances in the new year and beyond.

Benefactor support of Mayo Clinic translates directly to dramatic progress across a wide range of research and patient-care fields and other vital health care initiatives. There are many examples from 2022 we could cite, but here are three of particular note:

  • Mayo Clinic researchers created a patient-specific gene “road map” by incorporating a statistical technique known as probabilistic modeling, while exploring data from 90 breast cancer patients. This information will allow clinicians to more effectively recommend individualized cancer treatments. The tool lays the groundwork for a potential artificial intelligence (AI) platform that could also be used to address a wider array of diseases.
  • Mayo Clinic’s vision for transforming how medical care is delivered includes dramatic changes to the physical spaces where patients receive that care. Recently, a team of Mayo Clinic surgeons, scientists and engineers were awarded a prestigious prize for their design of an operating room. The room doubles as a biomanufacturing space for cells, genes, 3D-printed materials and other tools that regenerative-medicine surgeons can put to work immediately to help their patients.
  • Our Advanced Care at Home program combines Mayo Clinic’s commitment to the highest level of patient-focused care with our work on the leading edge of advanced technology and networking. Today, thousands of patients are receiving care, recovering from surgery, or having their health monitored by Mayo Clinic experts, all in the most secure and stress-free setting of all — their own homes. In 2023 and beyond, we intend to extend this program even wider. Today’s standards of “telemedicine” can only hint at the vision of connected, location-independent health care Mayo Clinic is working toward!

These are just a small sample of the many ways benefactor support allowed Mayo Clinic to pursue our mission to cure, connect and transform medicine in 2022 and beyond. But, much more work lies ahead in 2023. May we count on your support?

Benefactors are a vital part of the Mayo Clinic community, and their support drives our advances in research and patient care. You can help us achieve even more in 2023. Your gift before midnight, December 31 can have three times the impact thanks to the 2022 Year-End Challenge. We appreciate your thoughtful consideration.
